These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and Mecipe (“Mecipe”, “we”, “us”) — an app operated by an independent developer based in the Netherlands — governing your use of the Mecipe app and related services (the “Service”). By downloading or using Mecipe, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, don’t use the Service.

1. Who may use Mecipe

You must be at least 16 years old and able to form a binding contract. By using the Service you confirm you meet these requirements and that the information you provide is accurate.

2. What Mecipe does

Mecipe lets you save recipes from short-form social media (such as Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube) and uses AI to convert them into clean, structured, readable recipes, including translation and unit/temperature localisation. The Service is provided for your personal, non-commercial use.

3. Your account

You sign in with Apple. You’re responsible for activity under your account and for keeping access to your Apple ID secure. Tell us promptly at support@mecipe.app if you suspect unauthorised use.

4. Your content and the license you give us

You keep ownership of the recipes, notes, and other content you create or save (“Your Content”). To run the Service, you grant us a limited, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, reformat, translate, structure, and display Your Content solely to operate and provide the Service to you — and, where you choose to share a recipe or collection, to display it to the people you share it with. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for routine backups (overwritten over time) and anonymised data.

You’re responsible for Your Content. You confirm you have the right to import and use it, and that it doesn’t break the law or infringe anyone’s rights. We do not claim any commercial or promotional rights over Your Content.

5. Mecipe Pro: subscriptions, trials & billing

Some features require a paid subscription (“Mecipe Pro”), sold as an auto-renewing subscription through the Apple App Store.

  • Free trial. Pro may start with a free trial. If you don’t cancel before the trial ends, it automatically converts to a paid subscription.
  • Auto-renewal. Your subscription renews automatically for the same period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple ID is charged on renewal.
  • Price. The current price, billing period, and any introductory or promotional offer are shown in the app and on the App Store at the time of purchase, in your local currency. Promotional prices (for example, a discounted renewal offer) display the standard renewal price before you buy.
  • Manage & cancel. Manage or cancel anytime in your device’s Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
  • Payment & refunds. Purchases are processed by Apple under Apple’s Media Services Terms. Refunds are handled by Apple. We don’t receive or store your payment-card details.
  • EU right of withdrawal. As an EU consumer you may have a 14-day right of withdrawal for digital purchases. Because the Service starts immediately, you may be asked to agree that the right is lost once the service has been fully performed. Where the purchase is made through Apple, exercise any withdrawal or refund right through Apple.
  • After a trial or subscription ends, your account becomes read-only for paid features: you keep access to recipes you’ve already saved but may need Pro to add new ones.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to: break the law or infringe others’ rights; upload malware or attempt to disrupt or reverse-engineer the Service; scrape or use the Service or its content for commercial purposes or to build a competing product; circumvent usage or security limits; or import content you have no right to use. We may suspend or limit accounts that breach these Terms.

7. AI & accuracy disclaimer

Recipes in Mecipe are generated by automated AI extraction and translation from third-party social-media content. They may be inaccurate, incomplete, or wrong — including ingredients, quantities, cooking times, and temperatures. Always use your own judgement and verify a recipe before relying on it. The Service is provided for general information and convenience and is not professional culinary, nutritional, or medical advice.

8. Food safety, allergens & health

You are responsible for safe food handling. Mecipe does not verify allergen information, ingredient safety, dietary suitability, or safe cooking temperatures. If you have allergies, dietary restrictions, or health conditions, check ingredients and consult a qualified professional. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for allergic reactions, foodborne illness, or other harm resulting from preparing or consuming any recipe.

9. Our intellectual property

The Mecipe app, its design, software, branding, and the “Mecipe” name and logo are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by law. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app. You get no other rights.

10. Third-party content & platforms

Mecipe helps you organise recipes that originate from third-party creators and platforms. Those creators and platforms own their content and trademarks. Mecipe is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Instagram, Meta, TikTok, or YouTube/Google. You must comply with the terms of any platform you import from, and you must have the right to import the content you save.

Takedown. If you’re a rights holder and believe content available through the Service infringes your rights, email support@mecipe.app with the details (identification of the work, the location in the Service, your contact information, and a good-faith statement). We will review and remove infringing content where appropriate.

11. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, and we don’t warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI output will be accurate. Nothing in these Terms removes or limits any rights you have as a consumer under mandatory Dutch or EU law.

12. Limitation of liability

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for: death or personal injury caused by our negligence; fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; intent or gross negligence; or any liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law.

Subject to that, to the fullest extent permitted by law: we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages; and our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) EUR 50.

13. Suspension & termination

You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time (Settings → Delete Account). We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these Terms or use the Service unlawfully. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (e.g. content-license tails, disclaimers, liability, governing law) continue to apply.

14. Changes to the Service and these Terms

We may update the Service and these Terms. For material changes we’ll post the updated Terms on this page, update the effective date, and give reasonable notice in the app where required. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept them; if you don’t agree, stop using the Service.

15. Apple App Store — additional terms

These Terms apply to your use of the Mecipe app obtained from the Apple App Store. You also agree to the following, which Apple requires:

  1. Acknowledgement. These Terms are between you and us only, not with Apple. We — not Apple — are solely responsible for the app and its content.
  2. Scope of license. Your license to use the app is non-transferable and limited to use on Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in Apple’s Media Services Terms.
  3. Maintenance & support. We are solely responsible for support and maintenance. Apple has no obligation to provide any.
  4. Warranty. We are responsible for any product warranties. If the app fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price (if any); to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation.
  5. Product claims. We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims relating to the app, including product-liability, legal/regulatory, and consumer-protection claims.
  6. Intellectual property. If a third party claims the app infringes its intellectual-property rights, we (not Apple) are responsible for investigating, defending, and resolving the claim.
  7. Legal compliance. You confirm you’re not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated “terrorist-supporting,” and that you’re not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  8. Contact. Questions, complaints, or claims about the app should go to Mecipe at support@mecipe.app.
  9. Third-party terms. You must comply with any applicable third-party agreement (for example, your wireless data plan) when using the app.
  10. Third-party beneficiary. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and, upon your acceptance, have the right to enforce them against you.

16. Governing law & disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, without affecting the mandatory consumer-protection rights you have under the law of your country of residence in the EEA. Disputes will be submitted to the competent court in the Netherlands, again without prejudice to any mandatory right you have to bring proceedings in your local courts as a consumer. Before going to court, please contact us first at support@mecipe.app — most issues are resolved quickly.
